Classify rocks (including igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic)...
CCR Standards: Reading Anchor Standards 1 & 9, Writing Anchor Standards 1, 4, 6 & 8
Your task: Imagine that you are a famous geologist. The third grade teachers at Brown's Ferry have asked you to come to their school and teach all of their third graders about the three different kinds of rocks. You have to decide how you're going to do it: You might explain it in words, or maybe even write a song to sing to the children!! The choice is yours!
Steps you will be following: In order to plan to teach the third graders
1) Click on the link on the resources page (or just click on the words 'rock types' in this sentence) and read the document. As you read, take dash notes on the three types of rocks.
2) Watch the video called Rock Cycle: Cassidy will Rock You. This video was made by a third grader just like you!
3) Organize your information, plan, decide how you want to present your information.
4) Write either the explanation or the song...whichever you chose.
4) You will want to refer to your notes while doing this task. You can go back over the notes, the information, and the video, as often as you like.
